Popcorn Lab

The popcorn lab was pretty fun! We split up into 3 groups and experimented with different ways to "pop" popcorn. Each experiment showed us conduction, convection, or radiation. With the first experiment, Mrs. Bulloch popped popcorn by using a mini, movie popcorn maker. This was conduction. We went to Mrs. Spalding next. She popped popcorn using an air popper. This was my favorite experiment because I liked the way the machine used convection to make the popcorn kernels pop. The last experiment was conducted by Mr. Stodghill. He made popcorn in the microwave. This was radiation. I liked the microwave popcorn the most because it had butter on it. The other two tasted like paper because they didn't have any butter or salt on them. I really liked this lab! It was fun rotating to different Science teachers and seeing the ways heat transfer was used to cook popcorn. We should do more labs like this!
